TROUBLEMAKERS have been warned off causing havoc at a Rossendale youth club by the county’s young people’s service.

County council officials have issued the alert after a number of confrontations at K.Gs youth cafe in King Street, Bacup.

Youth staff have placed a notice in the front window of the town centre premises which is said to apply to adults and anyone who has been excluded from the premises recently.

It reads: “If you enter the building making threats to young people or staff, be it verbal or physical, the police will be called out.”

Later Carmel Fenning, the Young People’s Service operations manager for Hyndburn, Rossendale and Ribble Valley, said: “The safety of the young people who attend K.Gs youth club is our main priority.

“After a small number of incidents in which adults came into the youth club without authorisation, we consulted young people on how best to deal with this problem.

“As a result, we have decided to put up a notice making it clear who can use the youth club.”

County councillor Jimmy Eaton, who represents Bacup, said: “There aren’t that many places for young people to go and spend time.

“Places like this are important to keep the young people off the streets.

“There are plenty of young people who want somewhere to go and don’t want to make any trouble, and these others are ruining it for them, which is why it’s all the more important to get it sorted out.”
