CLITHEROE youngsters are ‘being kept busy’ researching into the 25 pilots who lost their lives after crashing in the Forest of Bowland and the Ribble Valley during the Second World War.

Clitheroe Youth Forum leader Mel Diack, recently set up the ‘We Shall Remember Them’ project after a two-and-a-half-year appeal for funding.

The group was awarded £27,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund last year to create memorials for 25 British, American, Canadian and Polish airmen.

The group plans to place a memorial stone at Langden Brook, create a remembrance book, a Braille book, a film about the crashes and place five stones in and around the crash sites.

Mr Diack said: “The kids are really enjoying the research and there is a lot to be done. We are still on track to have everything finished by next year.”

Anyone who would like to get involved should call Mel on 01254 823012, or the Lancashire Telegraph Bygones desk on 01254 298223.
