A DOG found wandering the streets on Christmas Day has been reunited with its owner - who saw an article in the Lancashire Telegraph.

The terrier, nicknamed Stan, was taken to Blackburn fire station by off-duty firefighter Gordon Mitchell, who found him alone outside St Mary’s College, Blackburn at around 9am.

The dog, who is actually called Alfie, belongs to Laura Brown, landlady of the Royal Oak pub, who was planning to have him rehomed after Christmas.

She had been walking Alfie on Christmas morning with her other dog, a labrador called Charlie, when Alfie ran off.

Laura spent some time trying to find him but had to get back to the pub to open up on Christmas Day.

When Alfie did not return she began to worry, as he was due to go for a Boxing Day walk with his new family.

But Laura later saw an article in the Lancashire Telegraph, which said Alfie was being cared for at Aspen Valley Kennels in Oswaldtwistle.

Laura collected Alfie from the kennels, and he is now safe and happy with his new owners.
