A MUM whose baby boy was born with cerebral palsy got the best present ever when he was allowed home in time for Christmas.

Oscar Sebastian Jack Whiteley had been in hospital since being born on September 10, but he was discharged on Monday.

Little Oscar spent his first week in intensive care after his brain was starved of oxygen during labour.

He previously hadn’t been allowed home because doctors said the family home in Varley Street, Colne, was too small. But now they have moved to a new house in Skipton Road, Colne, which was deemed suitable.

Mum Natasha, 25, said: “We had a discharge planning meeting and his consultant and paediatrician said he was ready to come home.

“He was discharged on Monday, two days before Christmas. At one point it looked like he was going to be spending Christmas in hospital so for him to come home was the best present ever.”

Oscar, who weighed in at 6lb 13oz when he was born, spent a week in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Burnley General Hospital after midwives struggled to find his heartbeat.

He also suffers from hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), which means he has an inadequate supply of oxygen to the brain.

Natasha said: “He was very spoilt at Christmas. There was a whole corner of the room full of his presents.

“It was great just to be able to chill out at home with Oscar.

"He’s been really relaxed being back home. He loves having cuddles and always wants picking up.”

Oscar will now attend physio appointments and will be visited at home by the community nurses.
