DOZENS of new jobs could be created if a plan to transform a derelict Colne mill into a pub and supermarket are given the green light.

An application to demolish the remainder of the mill and build a Lidl supermarket, a Marston’s pub and other employment units has been submitted this week to Pendle Council.

Glen Mill was previously used by BSN Medical as a textile dying and finishing factory but closed in 2009.

In 2011, plans to create a pub and shops fell through.

A spokesman for architects Plan A, who are working on plans for the Aldi store, said: “The development as a whole will be served by a total of 131 parking spaces, including four mobility impaired and three parent and child spaces, together with opportunities for secure cycle parking.

“Car parking facilities will be centrally located and shared by the proposed occupiers.

“The application site occupies a prominent position on the busy North Valley Road.

“However, the site presents a poor quality feature on the streetscene and significantly detracts from the visual amenity of the area.

“Whilst the site has been secured by temporary fencing, it presents a significant safety threat.

“The site boundary with Glen Street, which has a significant change in levels, and the former water tanks/pools on the North Valley Road frontage are a particular hazard.”

A spokesman for Marston’s said: “The development proposed by Mars- ton’s Inns and Taverns is for a high-quality building as a food led public house to enhance the community aspect of the wider area by providing a dining and drinking establishment on the site.”
