TWO men who beat up a soldier when a New Year's Eve party turned to violence appeared at Burnley Crown Court.

The court heard host Edward Morrison, 32, suspected his wife Tyra was having a relationship with victim Sebastian Egan.

Mrs Morrison's brother, Aaron Flint, 25, punched Mr Egan in the eye. Morrison and Mr Egan argued, the defendant grabbed him and a struggle followed.

Flint ran towards the pair in the street and kneed the victim in the face. Police were called and the defendants were arrested.

Flint, of Oxford Road, and Morrison, of Swinless Street, both Burnley were both given community orders.

Flint, who admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, last December 31, received 100 hours unpaid work, and Morrison was given 60 hours.

Peter Hargan, prosecuting, said Morrison claimed he had been acting in self- defence. Flint also gave an account to the police excusing his actions.

Mr Egan uffered bruising and swelling to his face.

Mr Hargan said Flint had previous convictions for damage and assault and two cautions for punching and biting his sister. Morrison had a conviction for battery, when he had punched his partner in the cheek.
