A RAWTENSTALL school sung their way to success at their celebration and awards evening.

A number of students at Alder Grange Community Technology School and Sixth Form showed their singing and dramatic skills and others were praised for their academic achievements.

Jess Haworth and opera singer Grace O’Malley gave solo performances and Brianne Stiles and John Tofalis teamed up to perform Somewhere Only We Know.

Chloe Dawson, Daniel Higgins and Matthew Thomasson acted in a short theatrical sketch.

In the awards, Tajima Bibi was a standout Year 7 pupil, receiving prizes for her achievements in French, History, IT, Science and English, alongside a Form Prize.

In Year 8, Sam Cardy collected History and English awards while Amy Gallagher was also a double winner in French and Product Design, as was Sarah Crowder in PE and Drama.

A number of older children also received awards for their achievements.

Ag6 president Jake Ford stood out in Year 12 as he had three successes, winning the Form Prize along with Science and Graphics awards.

Lauren Shone-Ellison received two recognitions with the IT and Art and Design awards as did Luke Taylor with Music and Media.

David Thompson, headteacher, said: “It was a fantastic night.

“Our students blew us away with their singing and acting skills and then it was nice to reward the achievements of those who had worked so hard last year and they deserved their recognition.”
