FIRE ripped through a takeaway storage room tonight.
Firefighters were called to Romeo’s Pizza at 4pm after a taxi driver spotted the flat upstairs was alight.
Takeaway boss Raja Khizar Hayat, who rents the building and uses the upstairs flat to store stock, said everybody was downstairs at the time and was oblivious to the blaze.
He said: “We didn’t know anything about it until a taxi driver saw it and told us.
“There was quite a lot of smoke billowing out from the upstairs windows.
“I have no idea how bad it is and what I have lost.
“Luckily it appears the takeaway, which is my only business, will be able to reopen very soon.”
Two fire engines were on the scene for more than an hour as officers investigated the cause of the fire, but the road remained open throughout.
