BLACKBURN Market is celebrating after its fun-filled online seasonal advertisement has received over 16,000 views.

The four and a half minute video features traders singing a special version of the 12 days of Christmas and displaying the variety of goods on offer in the town centre market hall.

Touted as the market’s ‘home-made response to slick Christmas advertising campaigns’, the promotional clip is a world away from those produced by corporate stores.

The film shows real traders having fun in festive costumes and is a real slice of a Lancashire Christmas.

Commercial manager David Smith said: “At the last count the film has received 16,000 views on Facebook, 1,173 views on You Tube had been shared and it had been retweeted on Twitter many times.”

The video has been met with positive comments and has been shared multiple times.

One person commenting on Facebook said: “Fantastic video, about time Blackburn pulled together and showed it can be festive, well done!”

Lorraine Johnson, owner of Le Rain Florist in Blackburn Market said: “It was such a great day filming it - it was done really professionally but we had such a laugh.

“I think it’s great that it’s been seen by so many people - it’s a great piece of promotion for the market.

“We’ve had customers coming and saying to us that they’ve seen the video and really enjoyed it.”

Lorraine said the amateur and natural nature of the advert had sparked the huge amount of interest and ensured that the clip received such a favourable response.

“At first they were thinking of editing it and changing the sound so that everyone seemed to sing in time and in tune but we didn’t want that.

“It doesn’t look like professional singers - it looks like a load of market traders having a laugh and that’s exactly what it is.”
