AN ACCRINGTON student has spoken of her shock at being named Pupil of the Year.
Louise Fielding, 18, was awarded the title for her ‘strong academic ability, and her work as a peer mentor for local primary schools.
The Year 13 student, who attends Accrington Academy, attended the glamourous event and described it as fantastic.
The Rock FM Education Rocks Awards awards, held at Blackburn College, recognised Lancashire’s top teachers, pupils and schools.
She said: “I’m very happy with a sense of pride, and I’m shocked at the fact I won.
“I knew I was nominated but I did not expect to win. I really have no idea why I did, but I have a very good friend in Zeba, who nominated me.
"It was a really enjoyable evening and it was great to celebrate with friends and teachers from the academy – it's a great achievement for me and a fantastic experience to win the award."
Louise lives with her grandparents and is studying English, Law, and History.
She said: “Next is to pass my A Levels, and to take up the offer to study Law at Lancaster University.
“After sixth form and university, I would like to train to become a barrister.”
Zeba Aryrm, who nominated Louise, said: “She is ambitious but quiet, a great role model.”
Accrington Academy was also runner up in the ‘Teacher of the Year’, ‘Music Teacher of the Year’ and ‘Prefect of the Year’ categories.
