Hyndburn swimming clubs fight it out in ‘duel in the pool’

TWO Hyndburn swimming clubs went head to head in a ‘duel in the pool’.

Accrington and Great Harwood swimming clubs competed in the Les Jeal Memorial Gala trophy, with Accrington coming out on top in the friendly competition.

Oliver Ward and Ella Grimshaw, both 10, captained the Great Harwood Otters, and Jack Reed, 9, and Evie Thomas, 10, captained the Accrington team.

The competition featured 37 swims, with swimmers battling it out over one length of the pool in a winner-takes-all format.

It went right to wire, but Accrington pipped Great Harwood to the post with 107 to 101 points.

Accrington head coach, Chris McKean, said: “They did me proud, it was a fantastic night.”
