COUNCIL chiefs are saying ‘thank-you’ with free skips.

Blackburn with Darwen Council has launched two new initiatives to thank residents for making the borough a cleaner and greener place.

For three consecutive weekends starting this week, the council will be placing skips around the borough for residents to dispose of bulky items in time for Christmas.

These skips will be free to use and they will operated on first-come, first-served basis.

Additionally, this month and running into January, the cost to remove bulky waste from residents’ homes is being halved.

Executive member for environment Councillor Jim Smith said: “Over the past couple of years residents have pitched in and cleaned our borough through Your Call.

“To say thank-you I am delighted to announce that we will be placing skips throughout the borough over the next four weekends for residents’ bulky items.

“I urge residents to take advantage of this programme and not fly-tip.

“Further to this, we are also halving the price throughout the borough for bulky waste removal from £20 to £10 over the Christmas and January periods.

“I would like to thank residents for making this year the most successful year of the Your Call scheme, and I hope next year we can continue this growing success.”
