COUNTY Coun Geoff Driver, a former Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School student, has been awarded a CBE.

Coun Driver was presented with the honour by Prince William at a ceremony held in Buckingham Palace.

Coun Driver began his career in politics at Rawtenstall Town Hall in 1963, as a municipal treasurer.

Coun Driver went on to lead Lancashire County Council until the Conservatives were voted out of power in the local elections held in May.

He paid tribute to the people who had helped him during his career.

He said: “This award is as much a tribute to them as it is to me.”
