A NEW library and ICT room has been officially unveiled at a Ribble Valley school.

Pupils at St Leonard’s Primary in Langho have been enjoying the new-look library, complete with a wider selection of books and a larger ICT space.

The project has cost around £20,000 and has been hailed by the headteacher Kathryn Pym as ‘wonderful’.

The original ICT room accommodated only half a class at a time and the library catalogue was a fraction of the size it has been expanded to. The name of the new facility, The Learning Highway, was the winner of a competition between the school’s pupils.

The project came about after the after-school club said that a new space was needed for the older pupils to do their homework away from the main group, which is held in the school hall.

Mrs Pym said: “It’s a wonderful space and the children have been thanking staff members because they are so happy that they can use it.

“It’s a massive improvement from what we have and having a whole class that can use computers during a lesson is fantastic.

“I hope it will make a huge difference on learning because we have a focus on that at this school.

“We want every pupil to develop a real love for reading and learning and I think that this new facility will go a long way to making that happen.

“It has taken a while for the project to reach an end but I think that this will benefit children at this school for many years to come.

“It’s wonderful to have so many more books to get the children interested in reading and the space will also be very useful for our after-school club.

“The pupils seem very happy with the new library and computers which is very important to us.”
