HUMAN resources chief Kevin Moynes went ‘back to the floor’ this week by learning how to deep clean a hospital ward.
Since the Keogh Review into failings at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust earlier this year, board members have been making more effort to meet front line staff and understand the problems they encounter Mr Moynes, who is interim director of human resources and organisational development, rolled up his sleeves to join the domestic team at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.
He said: “I was made to feel very welcome by colleagues who work in the domestic team and I was impressed by their hard work, dedication and team work – and ideas on how to improve things.
“I felt very privileged to be part of the team, albeit for a few hours. Board members and the executive team now plan to join other teams on a regular basis in order to listen, understand and act on the views of staff within the trust and we look forward to working alongside them.”
Lorraine Bentley, domestic services manager, said: “It was a real boost to our staff that Kevin took the time to come and meet us, learn about what we did and then spend the afternoon working on the wards.”
