A MAJOR police drugs bust operation has taken place in a Hampshire town today.

Officers arrested two men and seized drugs after carrying out seven raids in the Eastleigh area and another in West End this morning.

It was all part of a crackdown on dealers in the Eastleigh area run in conjunction with the Operation Fortress team.

A 31-year-old man was arrested at an address in Duddon Close, in Chartwell Green, West End and a 23-year-old man was arrested at an address in Jackdaw Rise, Eastleigh.

A quantity of what is believed to be cannabis was recovered from the address.

Some more was found at an address in Alexander Square, Boyatt Wood, where another raid took place.

An amount of suspected class 'A' drugs was also recovered from an address in Southampton Road, Eastleigh.

Superintendent Ben Snuggs said: “There were two main purposes for today's raids.

“One is to send a clear message to people supplying drugs in the area that we know who they are, and will take all available steps to prevent their operation.

“The other is to reassure the public that we will continue to act on information they give us.

“Today's raids wouldn't have been possible without that help and I'd encourage anyone who knows about any illegal drug dealing to let us know as soon as possible.

“We will use this information to plan more days of action and continue to make the wider Eastleigh area a safer place to live and work.”

“We are working closely with the Operation Fortress team and I would ask that anyone with information about drug dealing calls us in confidence on 101 or phones the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111 anonymously.”
