Blackburn mum collects 750 signatures on meningitis jab petition
3:00pm Sunday 20th October 2013 in News
A MUM who lost her daughter to meningitis has gathered 750 names on a petition calling for routine vaccinations against the disease.
Blackburn MP Jack Straw was among those to back the campaign yesterday, as Toni Burford set up a stall outside the town hall.
Her 17-year-old daughter Dannielle Catterall was an active and healthy teenager until March 4, 2009, when she was suddenly struck down by meningitis B and died within hours.
Toni of Hamilton Street, Mill Hill, has been struggling to come to terms with what happened for the last four years, and is now involved in the ‘Beat it Now’ campaign with Meningitis UK.
It calls for the newly-licensed meningitis B jab to be included in the list of vaccines routinely administered to children.
She said there was a terrific response to the petition, while the campaigners also managed to raise about £200 for the charity.
