Blackburn grandma died after fall
12:15pm Friday 18th October 2013 in News
A GRANDMOTHER from Blackburn died after suffering a fall outside her home in August, a coroner’s court has heard.
Mary Swanton, 72, was found on the floor outside the entrance to her home in Sunnyhurst Road after being walked to the door by a taxi driver.
Her neighbour, Wayne Kanenguna, a student at Blackburn College, waited with the retired factory worker after calling the emergency services.
Ms Kanenguna said: “I saw her being helped out of a taxi in the evening of Monday, August 12, and being helped to her door by the driver.
“It appeared to me that she had been drinking and I saw the driver leaving her at her door.
“I looked out of my window again five minutes later and saw her on the floor and I went out to help her.”
Mrs Swanton was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital but refused to undergo treatment. She developed bronco pneumonia which was caused by the fall.
She passed away on Wednesday, August 21.
Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley coroner Michael Singleton said that he was going to record her death as accidental.
