A BACUP manufacturing firm which specialises in medical products has been acquired by a US-based group.
Orthoplastics Ltd, based at Beech Industrial Estate, off Todmorden Road, has been bought in an undisclosed deal by global medical technology group MedPlast, which has its headquarters in Tempe, Arizona.
Orthoplastics specialises in the custom-made polyethylene products and components for the orthopaedic device market.
It employs around 100 staff and posted a pre-tax profit of £2.4m on sales of £18.6m in 2012/13.
The deal represents the first foray into Europe for MedPlast, which has operations in China, Mexico and across the US.
Orthoplastics managing director David Brooks said: “Both companies share common values as innovative solution providers.
“Both have best in class technological expertise, a customer-first orientation and state-of-the-art processes.”
