Appeal for help over old bridge plaque in Darwen
1:23pm Wednesday 16th October 2013 in News
A FRIENDS group has appealed for information on an old bridge it would like to restore.
The Thomas Knowles Bridge was first built in 1902 and a small piece of a plaque remains in place.
It contains the name of the maker, Jamie Smithies of Wilmslow, and the year of construction.
Friends group chairman Harry Duxbury said: “If anyone has details of the original complete plaque we would like to know so we can have a replica made and fixed in position. Maybe a Telegraph reader has an old photograph or remembers the details.”
Anyone with information can call Darwen reporter Dan Clough on 01254 298212 or email daniel.clough@ nqnw.co.uk.
