Children at Blackburn primary school start the day with a workout
10:52am Wednesday 16th October 2013 in News
CHILDREN at Holy Souls RC Primary School in Blackburn got their day off to an energetic start with a raucous workout.
Staff joined in with pupils in the colour-themed ‘Wake and Shake’ musical workout, as part of the school’s ‘Super Learning Day’.
They all gathered in the hall for assembly before lessons started and jumped and shook themselves about to music to get them ready to face the day ahead with gusto.
Government guidelines recommend that children aged five to 16 should be active for at least 60 minutes each day in order to stay healthy.
Exercise not only helps children to maintain a healthy weight, but also keeps their bones healthy and encourages muscle strength and flexibility.
Coun Ron O’Keefe, Blackburn with Darwen’s Children and Health Scrutiny committee chairman said: “This is a good idea. It will get them off to a good start at school,”
