BOSSES at Burnley brewers Moorhouse’s have nothing to fear from Hallowe’en.

Sales for the first week of October have soared to 663 barrels, equivalent to 190,000 pints, as the Accrington Road brewery ramps up production for All Souls Night.

Managing director David Grant says the witchcraft and sorcery celebration is more significant than Christmas for the firm.

The Burnley company has been able to trade off its three big hitters — Pendle Witch, Pride of Pendle and Black Cat — for the seasonal push.

And it has concocted three more ‘potions’ to tempt drinkers for 2013, ranging from the golden wheat beer White Mist through to the fruitier White Witch and darker Ruby Witch.

Mr Grant said: “Hallowe’en just gets busier and busier each year — even more than Christmas — as our witch brands become more widely-known.

“But without a doubt this year looks set to be truly outstanding. Substantial orders have already gone out to leading pub companies Enterprise and Wetherspoon’s.”

The brewer has now passed the five-million-pints-a-week landmark and is aiming to increase turnover to £7million, en-route to reaching its full production capacity at the £4.2million plant.
