Fishing fanatic lands 16lb carp in Darwen
2:38pm Wednesday 9th October 2013 in News
A PROUD young fishing fanatic landed a 16lb carp at Newrad Fisheries in Watery Lane, Darwen.
Tom Nixon-Taylor, 11, battled with the huge fish and, to the astonishment of onlooking experienced fishermen, was able to pull it out of the water.
Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School pupil Tom, of Glencarron Close, Hoddlesden, has been a keen fisherman since being introduced to the sport four years ago.
Dad Justin said: “Fishing is his life. He watches all the programmes on TV and makes his own rigs. He started going with my uncle Ken four years ago, who was also the first person to take me fishing.
And now Tom can’t get enough of it. We even have to take a fishing rod when we go away on holiday.”
Tom, who fishes through his dad’s membership because he is under 12, surprised everyone when he caught the large carp.
Justin said: “They have some fish there that are more than 20lbs, but this one was pretty big.
“They are quite difficult to catch, too.
“Some of the older guys that fish up there have never caught anything that big.”
