Countdown to Nelson art and vintage market
5:12pm Friday 4th October 2013 in News
THE fourth art and vintage market takes place in Nelson, from October 11 to 13.
Stallholders met this week to pick up ideas from each other for stall displays.
Taking place in, and around, the ACE centre and the Victory Centre, in Nelson, for three days only, it’s fast becoming a well-known event in the town.
There will be over 60 stalls selling unusual products, including hand-made jewellery, quirky vintage clothing, unique pieces of artwork, hand-sewn soft furnishings, home nick-nacks, knitted babywear, photography, and greetings cards.
The market was the idea of Nelson and Colne College students, who were asked to put forward suggestions to bring people into the town centre, after Nelson was chosen as a Mary Portas Pilot town by Local Government Minister Grant Shapps.
Coun Paul White, who looks after economic development, enterprise and growth, said: “This follows the huge success of previous ones. It’s a key part of the Portas Pilot, which aims to breathe new life into Nelson by creating lively and social places, especially for young people. There’s a very impressive line-up of stalls throughout the weekend, and I’m certain Nelson will, once again, be buzzing with excitement.”
Next weekend’s event will coincide with the Pendle Open Art Exhibition, at the ACE Centre.
