Bid to build affordable new homes in the Ribble Valley
8:00am Saturday 5th October 2013 in News
PLANS to build 28 houses in Barrow are set to be discussed by Ribble Valley Borough Council next week.
The proposed development of ‘affordable houses’ at the Pendle Garage site in Clitheroe would include two and three bedroom properties.
The application was discussed at a previous meeting of the borough council’s planning and development meeting and councillors voted to defer the decision to give the applicant more time to work on the plans.
The development has been criticised by Wiswell and Whalley parish councils, with councillors stating that the sewerage facilities in the area are inadequate and do not have the capacity to accommodate further development and that the development would result in an increase in traffic.
The parish councils also said there were ‘insufficient educational vacancies within Barrow to accommodate additional children’.
Two letters have been sent to the borough council objecting to the application raising concerns including parking and a potential strain on local services.
The plans will be discussed by the borough council on Thursday, October 10, at the borough council chambers in Church Street, Clitheroe, from 6.30pm.
