Ribble Valley planning pledge is ‘valuable’
5:03pm Friday 27th September 2013 in News
A HOUSING minister’s pledge to the Ribble Valley has been branded as ‘better than nothing’ by a housing pressure group.
Nick Boles MP visited the borough on Thursday and held meetings with councillors and residents on housing development issues.
He announced that when the council’s core strategy is approved early next year it would get the full support of planning inspectors.
Nick Walker, chairman of the Save Whalley Village Action Group, said: “What he announced was better than nothing but by the time the housing plan was approved, it would be too late.
“It’s good that we have had reassurance for when the plan is approved by the government but not many are convinced that it will be safe from further big developments.
“It was good of him to come to the Ribble Valley and it was a valuable meeting to have but we were never going to as much progress as we would have liked.”
Borough councillor Kevin Horkin said: “We are now able to see the light at the end of the tunnel and the borough council is set to be a lot stronger.”
