Work on Darwen road ‘did need doing’
2:59pm Friday 27th September 2013 in News
A COUNCILLOR has defended the resurfacing of a Darwen back street after the decision to carry out the work was criticised by a resident.
Simon Heslington, who lives in the Sunnyhurst area, was angry after the work in Church Bank Street.
He said: “This is a road that goes nowhere, has very little traffic and is hardly used by anyone.”
But Coun Dave Smith said: “Church Bank Street was probably the worst street in Darwen, full of potholes, with a terrible surface and an awful camber.
“It serves quite a lot of traffic, especially deliveries for the businesses in Bridge Street, the Co-op and local pubs and residents.
“It certainly needed doing.”
