Teenager from Blackburn helps at library for duke of Edinburgh Award scheme

BLACKBURN teenager Emily Pollock has turned her love of books into an award-winning volunteering mission.
She has been giving her effort free to Blackburn Central Library, as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme since July 2012.
She specifically approached the library as she loves reading and books.
Currently studying for four A-levels, at St Wilfrid’s Academy, Emily applied to join the scheme when she was 14.
She said: “As so many of us were interested, we all had to write a letter.
“Luckily I was accepted.”
When she began, she was working towards her silver award, and is now on her gold.
Emily’s jobs include assisting with an author event, shelving and sorting books, craft activities.
She also has a role encouraging children to read.
