Hyndburn offender groomed and performed sex act on ‘brainwashed’ girl
A DANGEROUS convicted rapist who groomed and performed a sex act on a ‘brainwashed’ schoolgirl, has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.
Burnley Crown Court heard how ex-solider John Schofield, 42, had also tried to carry out another indecent act on the victim to satisfy his perverted sexual interest in her and other girls of a similar age.
Schofield was locked up for nine years for two charges of rape by a Court Martial in May 2000, after he attacked a woman wearing nothing but a black balaclava and threatened to kill her.
The defendant, of Burnley Road, Accrington, recently admitted sexual activity with a child and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He was given five years' extended licence by a judge who ruled he was dangerous. Schofield was ordered to sign the sexual offenders' register for life and received an indefinite sexual offences prevention order, banning contact with any child under 16.
The hearing was told the child victim told someone what the defendant had done and police were called. The defendant was arrested on March 31, questioned and denied the offences that were put to him.
Schofield's laptop was seized and examined and 100 or more Google searches were identified which were of a wholly inappropriate nature and involved ‘an enhanced interest in sex with young girls’.
In May 2000, the defendant had been imprisoned for nine years and dismissed with disgrace from HM Forces.
Jonathan Gregg, for Schofield, said he knew custody was inevitable.
Sentencing, Recorder Simon Medland, QC, said what the defendant had done was ‘grossly serious’.
