AN East Lancashire MP has hit out at the threat posed to traditional Christmas values by groups "obsessed" with political correctness.

Ribble Valley Conservative MP Nigel Evans has sided with the coalition of Christian and Muslim leaders who want to "save" Christ-mas people intent on toning down the festive message.

Mr Evans said: "Chri-stmas causes no offence to anyone, whilst banning it offends everyone.

"Everyone should be allowed to worship according to their own religion without persecution from bureaucrats in town halls or other organisations banning the mention of Christmas for the fear of offending anyone.

"We are predominantly a Christian country and it is right that villages, towns and cities across the land should be allowed to celebrate Christmas in the spirit they would wish.

"Everybody loathes the idea of wintervals' or winter lights' instead of Christmas and Christmas lights, lets hope that Christmas carols and nativity plays take place in schools and village halls bedecked with decorations and a Christmas tree covered in Christmas lights.

"We all see through them and want people to be allowed to worship and celebrate as they see fit. I am delighted that all faiths in the UK are coming together to save the British Christmas - anything else would be humbug."
