Accrington crowbar raider is spared jail
10:26am Monday 23rd September 2013 in News
A TOOLED-up raider who broke into an Accrington cash and carry with a crowbar, left empty-handed when the police turned up, a court was told.
Career criminal Nicholas Shaw, 31, had broken into Seagull International Foods Ltd on Albion Street, but claimed he didn’t have chance to steal anything as officers arrived and caught him.
But, Burnley Crown Court heard, the premises may have been left insecure after the burglary, possibly for up to two days and the safe, till drawer and £4,700 cash, which were later found to have been taken, may have gone missing then.
Shaw was spared jail after a judge said he had since worked hard to turn his life around.
The defendant, of Claremont Road, Accrington, admitted burglary with intent to steal, on 14 April. He was given six months in jail, suspended for 18 months, with supervision and 100 hours unpaid work.
