BLACKBURN is buzzing after the installation of a beehive on top of The Mall shopping centre.

The installation was part of a campaign to save the honey bee and will see bees introduced to the new hive next April.

Blackburn with Darwen Council is supporting the initiative and the hive will be visible from the Town Hall link bridge, ensuring future planting carried out by the council will contain bee-friendly varieties.

The initiative has been driven by town centre businesses and the Business Improvement District team who are working together to drive and develop new initiatives that will help enhance the shopping experience and make the town an attractive venue for all.

Designer Wayne Hemingway, who grew up in Blackburn, has backed the campaign.”
