A POLICE officer from the Ramsbottom area is facing allegations that he raped a woman.
PC Stuart Jenkins, aged 37, of Springfield Road, Holcombe Brook, was charged with rape and faces trial next year.
He was arrested last May and interviewed after the alleged victim, said to be aged 26, came forward to police.
The allegation is that Jenkins raped the woman in Bury between December 24, 2010 and January 1, 2011.
He is understood to have been off-duty at the time of the alleged sex assault.
Jenkins appeared before Preston magistrates on July 22 and his case was sent to Preston Crown Court, where he appeared on August 6.
He is due to appear at the same court on October 31 for a plea and case management hearing.
The trial date has provisionally been set for February 5 and is expected to last around three days.
PC Jenkins works for Greater Manchester Police and has been suspended until the outcome of the court case. He was a member of the Rochdale South neighbourhood policing team.
