Factory fire in Blackburn stopped by quick thinking
12:40pm Wednesday 18th September 2013 in News
QUICK thinking averted a fire at a factory in Blackburn.
Fire crews from Blackburn Fire Station were called to Tensar International in Sett End, Shadsworth, when a granulating machine began to smoke.
Firefighters said the machine, located in a below-ground pit, began to smoke due to defective bolts.
The fire at noon yesterday saw crews use a thermal imaging camera and breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.
Watch manager Gary Ibbitson said: “It had the potential to become a serious fire but because they isolated the power and shut the machine down, it cooled down and there was only heat damage to the machine.”
