Work has started on Blackburn day centre extension

WORK has started on improving one of Blackburn’s day care centres.
A building extension, new conservatory, additional group rooms and specialised bathing facilities are just some of the improvements being planned to Hopwood Court in Audley.
Councillor Mohammed Khan, executive member for health and adult social care, said: “I am delighted the application has been approved by the planning committee.
“It has been extremely tough times for this council and we have had to face heavy cuts to our budget.
“But we have always said we will try to protect services used by the most vulnerable and those which residents value most.
“I spoke to service users and their families and they really do value this service.
“I visited Hopwood Court and spoke to people who use the service to see what was needed to significantly improve them.
“We wanted to invest money in this facility despite the tough times we have faced and the limited amount of cash we have available precisely because it is used by some of the borough’s most vulnerable residents.”
Work on the day centre is due to be finished early next year.
