New green bins for Ribble Valley
4:41pm Friday 6th September 2013 in News
HOUSEHOLDERS in Ribble Valley have been told to prepare for new larger green bins for garden waste next month.
They will be free, but existing smaller bins must be empty for the replacements to be exchanged with them.
The borough council is providing homes with gardens with larger 240 litre bins to replace their current 140 ones.
Delivery of the new bins will start at the end of October.
Council staff will collect and clean the 140 litre green wheeled bins for re-distribution to homes without a garden that currently have only a blue and burgundy wheeled bin.
Households that currently have shared communal green bins or that use lilac sacks will not be affected.
Items that will be permitted in the larger bins will include grass and hedge cuttings; leaves and prunings; weeds and flowers; Christmas trees; straw and sawdust; paper towels and tissues which have not touched raw meat; egg shells; vegetable peelings; coffee grounds and tea bags; seeds and apple cores.
