Plan for Great War memorial in Ribble Valley
4:20pm Thursday 5th September 2013 in News
RIBBLE Valley councillors have approved a proposal from Ribchester Parish Council for a war memorial.
The plan was discussed by the community services committee at the town hall in Clitheroe on Tuesday night.
It is hoped the memorial will be built behind the Greenside Car Park in time for the 100th anniversary of the First World War.
Chris Hughes, head of cultural and leisure services at the borough council told councillors in a report: “The construction of the war memorial will require planning permission and because of its proximity to the area as a scheduled ancient monument.
“The car park at Greenside is also next to an open space owned by ourselves.
“Although there is no formal play equipment on the site, it is used by young people and families for recreational purposes.”
The committee agreed the plan in principle and asked officers to report back with details.
