East Lancashire hospital patients warned about dehydration risks on wards

PATIENT champion Russ McLean said families should be aware of the dangers of dehydration when their loved ones are admitted to hospital.
Last week the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence highlighted several ways in which kidney injuries could be avoided in English hospitals.
And Mr McLean, chairman of the Pennine Lancashire Patient Voices Group, said: “Making sure patients have enough water should be something nurses do as a matter of course, but relatives can perhaps play a more integral role by making sure the patient always has some water.
“It’s something that needs to be taken very seriously. There aren’t enough nurses as we know, and going to fill up the jug of water is probably down the list of priorities.”
