HOMEGROWN uniform recycling charity, Mum’s The Word has been offered a home in The Mall, Blackburn until Christmas.
Mum’s The Word, which started life on Rothesay Road in Shadsworth, was given free use of a retail unit in the shopping centre during the school holidays.
Their summer run was so successful that it will find a new home within The Mall and remain open until December 2013.
The charity, founded by Rachel Rhodes and Caroline Fotios, takes pre-loved school uniforms and activity wear and sells them on, to reduce waste and keep clothes out of landfill.
Since the store opened on July 20, thousands of customers have visited the store to either buy, swap or donate.
Co-founder Caroline Fotios said: “Just when we were preparing to shut up shop we received the fantastic news that we could extend our stay until Christmas – for once we were both speechless.
“Mum’s The Word has become a local talking point and has attracted customers from all over Lancashire — it even made a TV debut when it opened its doors. Lots of people have commented what a good idea it is.”
