Fire spread to Burnley house after arson attack
4:25pm Monday 2nd September 2013 in News
AN ARMCHAIR was set alight in a back alleyway causing damage to a terraced house.
The blaze happened at the rear of Colne Road, in Burnley, around 3.10am on Saturday.
Firefighters said they believed the fire, which spread to a kitchen extension, had been started deliberately.
The blaze damaged the house downspout, guttering and barge board as well as part of the wooden fencing.
Crew manager Lee Pickup said people were asleep inside when the blaze started, and that a firefighter would go round to see them to inform them about the damage.
He said: “The house had a kitchen extension which extended right the way back to the rear of the yard.
“The fire started in the rear alleyway with a living room armchair.
“Somebody had lit that, which then caught the back of the house.
“Fortunately there was no need to evacuate and there was no damage to the inside of the property.”
