Ribble Valley councils urged to back green energy
3:28pm Monday 2nd September 2013 in News
PARISH councils in the Ribble Valley are set to be encouraged to become more involved in renewable energy projects.
The borough council is to champion two major projects that have government backing in a report to be submitted to parish council chairmen on Thursday, September 5.
The report states that this ‘is a real opportunity to make savings for rural dwellers and to improve the conditions of their properties’.
The government recently announced a new £20 million ‘Green Deal Communities’ scheme to help local authorities target areas.
A grant is also available from the Waste Resources Action Programme and offers £20 million to help rural communities to deliver renewable energy to their homes.
In the report, the council have said that the cost of fuel is increasing and those in isolated communities are already paying more due to the non-availability of mains gas.
