Free smoke alarms for Mill Hill households
5:59pm Wednesday 28th August 2013 in News
FIRE crews were out and about in Mill Hill yesterday promoting smoke alarm testing and raising awareness of fire safety.
Firefighters spent their time visiting people’s homes, offering fire safety advice and providing free smoke alarms if homes needed them. The crews also took the mobile fire station along with them, which had lots of games and activities for people to have a bash at.
Acting crew manager Martin Dillon from Blackburn Fire Station said: “Over the past four months we have attend 26 incidents in the Mill Hill area, and recently our fire safety activities have shown that several properties around the Bonsall area have had smoke alarms but they have been inoperable.
“Ultimately, the main message we would like to get across is the importance of having a working smoke alarm in your property.
“We just want to ensure that everyone is as safe as possible from fire and by speaking to people and tailoring fire safety messages to their needs we can potentially be giving lifesaving advice.”
