Community transport in Ribble Valley to benefit from £330k investment
12:09pm Wednesday 28th August 2013 in News
A RIBBLE Valley community transport service will benefit from £330,000 of new investment from Lancashire Country Council.
The council has put up a grant of £400,000 to help people who can’t use conventional buses or live too far from a bus route.
But £70,000 of the original grant has already been spent on projects, including a review of community transport, promotion to encourage take-up of services and market research and the council is keen to make the most of the remainder.
One of the community transport providers the council works with is the Little Green Bus, which operates out of Clitheroe.
County Councillor John Fillis, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “Many people rely on public transport and community transport is vital for people who struggle to use the bus or live too far away.
“This funding presents an opportunity to improve community transport and our officers are working closely with providers to identify where there’s the greatest need and how any improvements we make could have the most impact.”
