Towneley art gallery to exhibit first Vivien Whitaker retrospective
1:40pm Tuesday 27th August 2013 in News
TOWNELEY art gallery is hosting an exhibition of artist and sculptor, Vivien Whitaker’s work from September 15.
The show will be Whitaker’s first retrospective and reveals her long-standing ‘love affair’ with English Alabaster and the search for authenticity through ‘direct carving’, stripping away the superfluous.
All aspects of this soon to be extinct, stone have been utilised by the artist to stimulate a range of our senses.
All of Whitaker’s major sculptures of the last 10 years are exhibited together for the first time, and will be ‘enhanced’ by alabaster dust montages and the sounds of alabaster created from an alabaster lithopone.
The ‘60 Second Sculpture’ encourages visitors to create and photograph their own sculpture constructed from alabaster blocks.
The exhibition is free to enter.
