Disqualified driver from Darwen jailed
11:46am Tuesday 27th August 2013 in News
A 22-YEAR-old disqualified driver who sped off on a high-powered motorbike after being spotted by a police officer has been jailed.
Blackburn magistrates heard Rory Sean Compton escaped down a back alley but the officer, who knew him from previous dealings with him, was able to identify him.
Compton, of Olive Lane, Darwen, was convicted after a trial of driving without due care and attention, while disqualified and without insurance, and failing to wear protective headgear while on the motorbike.
He was jailed for 12 weeks for the offence with a further eight weeks for being in breach of a suspended prison sentence imposed in September for an offence of arson.
Bernard Horne, defending, said his client still maintained it was a case of mistaken identity and he was not the rider of the bike that was involved in the incident.
