Ramsbottom childminder's charity mission
9:00pm Monday 26th August 2013 in News
AFTER her husband survived a battle with mouth cancer, a Ramsbottom childminder is determined to raise money and awareness for a Manchester charity with a fun day.
Sarah and Bryan Jones of Lancaster Avenue, had their lives turned around when Bryan was diagnosed with sqaumous-cell carcinoma in his mouth last September.
Bryan, 44, underwent a 19-hour operation at North Manchester General Hospital to remove the tumour, rebuild his jaw from a bone in his leg and graft skin to his face.
After spending days in a high-dependency unit and nearly four weeks in the Oral and Maxillofacial Unit recovering, he also had chemo-therapy and radiotherapy treatment.
But with her husband now happily improving, Sarah, 39, is on a mission to make vital money for the hospital’s Watch Your Mouth charity.
Sarah said: “Watch Your Mouth lies very close to my heart and I truly believe the Oral and Maxillofacial Unit saved my husband’s life. I can’t put into words how wonderful the team has been.
“It has been an extremely stressful time but Bryan has made a brilliant recovery and looks absolutely fantastic.
The fun day will take place on Saturday, August 31 at Canon Lewis Hallin Longsight Road, Greenmount, and will run from noon until 5pm.
There will be music from Tower FM, children’s mascots including Woody from Toy Story, a zoo experience including snakes, tarantulas, crabs and cockroaches, an inflatable slide, zorb balls, ice-cream bike, beer tent, bouncy castles, top raffle prizes and more.
For more information about the fun day, contact Sarah on 01706 829872 or 07503 148496.
