Hyndburn MP blames PM for public being 'out of pocket'
1:08pm Friday 23rd August 2013 in News
PRIME Minister David Cameron is ‘out of touch’ and the public ‘out of pocket’, MP Graham Jones claimed.
The Hyndburn MP launched a scathing attack on Mr Cameron, and said he has overseen a higher fall in living standards than any Prime Minister on record.
Mr Jones said: “He has seen living standards fall for 35 consecutive months.
“The North West has seen one of the biggest falls in the country. Since Mr Cameron got the keys to number ten, our region has seen an average of 7.8per cent real terms fall in wages.
“That is the equivalent of £1,685 less per year on average that my constituents have to feed, and clothe, their families.”
The UK has fared the worst out of the G7 countries – including Canada, Japan, Germany, France, US and Italy – in terms of income since 2010.
Mr Jones added: “This has happened in part because of the Government’s decision to put VAT up to 20per cent, which has pushed up prices across the board and means inflation has consistently been above the Bank of England’s two per cent target.
“When this is combined with the very low growth figures, Cameron and Osborne have overseen since taking office, wages have not been able to keep up and my constituents are suffering.”
