Ribble Valley Borough Council asked to support Slaidburn Health Centre
12:25pm Thursday 22nd August 2013 in News
RIBBLE Valley Borough Council will be asked to urge NHS England to support Slaidburn Health Centre which has been earmarked for closure.
Coun Ken Hind will present the motion at the health and housing committee meeting on Thursday, August 29, after the NHS published new plans which would wipe out much of its budget.
If the Townend surgery is to close, more than 1,000 patients would face journeys of eight miles or more to see a doctor in Clitheroe.
More than 2,000 people have signed a petition to save the centre from closure and it will be presented to Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans when he visits the centre on Friday.
Coun Hind wants the council to campaign to make GP practices such as Slaidburn special cases for funding and to establish a funding formula which will secure the future of the rural practice.
