Last chance for Blackburn shoplifter
2:27pm Friday 16th August 2013 in News
A 34-year-old shoplifter was given a chance by magistrates after hearing he had been working well with the probation service.
Blackburn magistrates heard the latest offence committed by Thomas William Haggan put him in breach of a suspended prison sentence. But the chairman said they were going to ‘treat it as a blip’ and allow him to continue the good work. Haggan, of Hardman Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to stealing a T-shirt from JD Sports. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge.
Andrew Church-Taylor, defending, said Haggan had been to the shop and bought trainers. On his way out the T-shirt had fallen off a rail and on the spur of the moment he picked it up and took it.
“He doesn’t know what he was thinking of,” said Mr Church-Taylor.
