Darwen's gala day one of many events taking place this weekend
MUSIC lovers will gather for the 48th annual Darwen Gala which gets under way on Saturday.
Almost half a century of tradition will continue when the event kicks off on the playing fields between Belgrave Road and Borough Road at 1.45pm.
Entertaining the crowds on the gala field will be the Accrington Pipe Band, Cheer Valley Cheerleaders and the Cuerden Birds of Prey.
There will also be the usual array of stalls with a number of local businesses and charities involved, such as Moggies Cat Rescue, Darwen Days and the Friends of Darwen Cemetery.
The gala will be preceded by the annual gala parade, which will leave Anchor Road at 12.30pm.
It is just one of a number family events taking place across East Lancashire this weekend.
Blackburn Youth Zone will hold its Twilight Trek at Darwen Tower starting from Bold Venture Park on Saturday.
The walk is one mile to the top of the tower and back again and there is no minimum age.
A family fun day and a football tournament is set to be staged at Clitheroe Football Club in aid of Diabetes UK.
The event will see staff from Tesco stores in Clitheroe, Haslingden, Great Harwood and Padiham take to the pitch on Sunday from 3.30pm to 7pm.
The day will also feature face painting, games, a tombola and a cake stall.
The third Bfest family fun day in Bacup will take place at the town’s cricket club in Lanehead Lane on Saturday.
The event will include a family entertainer and stalls and will take place from midday.
Rare and collectable books will be on sale at Pendle Heritage Centre on Sunday.
The sale will take place from 10am to 2pm.
In the Ribble Valley, the Knights Templar will be holding a meeting at Whalley Parish Church from 2.50pm on Saturday.
Ribble Valley mayor, Coun Richard Sherras, has been invited to attend.
Weather forecasters are warning anyone out and about over the weekend to take waterproofs as it is scheduled to rain on Saturday, with highs of 16 degrees.
On Sunday, it is expected to be cloudy, with highs of 15 degrees and will rain in the morning.
